Dentists

You know, when you find a good dentist keep them!

My latest trip to the dentist shop of horrors has left me so numb I can't control the muscles on the right side of my face.
On the bright side, this guy had a sense of humor. Coming in after he had numbed me, he said "are you numb? Good, now you enter the torture chamber!" laughing all the while. Then it was "if you feel pain raise your hand, do not jump, hit, or try to talk. I don't want to hurt you but I will and have no problem doing it." said half laughing half serious.

I have to say this time at least they were laughing, the time before it was " if you hurt my sister, I kill you." said in a Russian accent. I some how could picture this assistant in the Russian mob. And that only goes to show you how the FB game Mobsters or whatever it's called has gotten to me. :-)

On a happy note I did get to have some good times looking and dreaming about the fabric I would buy if I had the $$$$.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all! If your traveling be careful and enjoy your holiday! If you are dairy farming... I hope your chores have gone off without incident, the girls don't go walk about (that's what happens here most holidays), your equipment keeps running and that you can rest and enjoy the day.

As for me it's a typical Thanksgiving... my chores are done, turkey is going, dayquil taken, and I'm counting my blessing and being thankful for those far and near. Maybe I'll get caught up on some sewing this weekend. :) I can hope can't I?!

OK... so when did it get cold????

Yeah, I know it's Nov 15th, but still! I'm freezing here... No longer are the mornings of just a T-shirt and hoodie going to be enough. Makes a girl want to cry and have a fit. However, if I did that I would just make things worse for the ye ole sinuses... whoever said there aren't late fall and winter allergies have never suffered with them.

What else is new around these parts... I've taken up walking... at least in home walking. I don't trust the cars that zoom by at 50+ MPH in not hitting me. I would like to keep from being road kill... So I've been going between the 2 and 3 mile mark. I'm out of shape y'all... it's sad. But right now a big hunk of chocolate cake with chocolate butter-cream frosting sounds soooooo good. Thankfully there no such cake in the house. So sad for the taste buds but good for the body. Besides Thanksgiving is coming up next week... *smile* Pecan Pie with whipped cream will be sooo much better!

In the goat kingdom we've had 6 new arrivals. Maggie with Maxwell McGregor, Cotton with Calliope, Sasha with Silk and Sandra, and Vashtie had two little girlies last night who have yet to be named. We are just waiting on Lily, Violet, Hyacinthie, Tempest, Lightening (Lord help me), Suzanna, and I think that's it... I don't remember. Pictures to come soon.

Sewing front... must crack the whip today... must must must!

Yes it has been a long while. I don't know what happens to the days. They just seem to fly by in chores, a short getaway, chores...

And so that means I have fallen behind in my sewing. OH it's bad... SOOO bad... so much sewing that needs to happen and this weekend. It's a MUST. But am so tired and I can hardly think straight. Maybe with the cooler weather I'll be more in the frame of mind to sew and be content with staying in out of the rain. Hmm sounds good to me!

OK so I've been a tiny bit busy. The days just seem to go by ever so slowly in an extremely fast way. Days are spent getting things tidied up for winter, trying to find some hay for winter (this is depressing) oh lets be honest here... the thought of winter just about sends be over. So really I'm trying NOT to think about it.

What made you happy... it's that bad all... Although mom has it also... and she is of an ill humor. I think we are getting on each others nerves. In a loving, I feel crappy way...

I did manage a little needle work today... I thought about sewing... and that made my tummy go dizzy...

Well I've been busy... just with farm things and such. Canning and so forth and so on. BUT I am working on my bee blocks for Ravishing in Red, A Quilting Journey Round Robin, Fabric Postcard Swap and I'm working on this for myself.

Isn't it just the cutest thing! Vintage Ornament #10. I found these at my LQS and bought another one. Would love to do all of them, but that would cost a small fortune. :)

Paper piecing could be frustrating! ARGH I'm hoping I'll be able to patch what I've messed up... It wouldn't be so bad if it was just for ME but when it's for someone else that really burns my biscuits.

I've not had much time to do much of any sew lately. Oh well... BUT I did win a contest that I entered in blogland. :) Well now I can't say I never win anything or that nothing good happens... Thank you Natalie!!!! Now what should I do with the fabric? hmmm Thoughts????

I thought I should give a short update farm wise ... nothing new to be told about the farm and if we are going to be here this winter. It's hard living as you'll always be here but never knowing for sure. Thanks to all who have, are and will be praying. And thanks to all who have been praying for my mom... the waiting until the 20th for the next MRI seems to far off and yet not so much. August has one stressful month that's for sure... farm, Lifelined mother to the hospital, 11 baby calves on the bottle, emailing attorney back and forth... what a month, year, YEARS!

It seems as though this week has just flown by in a series of slow days, YES I know that really makes no sense but then that's just me.

I don't remember Wednesday, Thursdays are always a blur, Friday mom and I went and picked up the blueberries we had ordered. OHHH so good! Two quilt shops had gone out of business. What a shame... and yesterday I went to Springfield and will be going back today to Lowes. We had a water hydrant give up the ghost and it needs to be fixed ASAP. So much for a relaxing day...

Chief & Hot-rod

Yesterday the vacuum pump that enables us to milk the moos, gave up the ghost, or so we thought. Thankfully we had gotten through morning milking. Be thankful for small and big things... pray over and about EVERYTHING!

So in true fashion I call R. who will from now on just be called Chief. When the pulleys wouldn't hardly move or not at all it's a BAD thing. I asked Chief... how bad is bad, knowing full well how BAD was bad... a $1000.00 bad? He laughed, I groaned.. more like $5000.00 he said. I was about in tears... by the end of the day I was...

We didn't have $5000.00 if it was totally shot. NO way to get it either. So I tried everything he told me to do... nope nothing... I finally called him and said... We can't get ahold of G. to see if he'll sell us his, and we don't have the $5000.00. Now what? and he told me, well you are in a pickle? (ya think so?) But I'll come... Thank you I said... He got here with his helper... Hot-rod... And so began the taking apart of the pump... Well there it is, the little spinning thing (my terms) is spun out, and the vanes are shot... and then it was no it's just the vanes are shot. and he pulled pieces and a crumbled vanes out... OK this is good I thought if it's just the vanes maybe just maybe we'll be OK.

Long story short (I've got to get oil ASAP) It was just the vanes, it hadn't spun out, and as Chief told me more than once... do you KNOW close you came? do you KNOW how big of a bullet you dodged? Yes I do and it was God... You see when this brand of vacuum pump goes, it's gone.

God is good, faithful and never late... some days though... like yesterday we have meltdowns... nothing seems to go right, people ask hurtful questions, and you wonder what is the point of it all? Why do we keep going when nothing seems to work right or do right? I don't know...

But then some good things happen like the vacuum pump only costing $600.00, a friend giving us some peaches (18 qts. ready for winter) and little heifer calves.

I did manage to get some early morning stitching done... woo hoo for ME!

The rest of the day went something like:

Feed goats
wash milk buckets
Warm 2 bottles for calves
Milk goats
Water goats and bovines, forget about water and let it run and run and run... oops
Feed new babies... a prayer was said on one of them... something to the effect... God PLEASE help her to not be so blasted STUPID, STUBBORN, and KICKY! Help her to eat before I lose my patience and my good humor.
Feed other babies.
Breakfast
Help shuck corn, cut corn, and we are now to the canning stage... it's HOT Y'ALL!

Now for evening chores... sigh... I might just melt...

Dreams

Rather nightmares... I never have them... dreams yeah sure, not nightmares. I've been awake since before 5 when one woke me up. Heart pounding, almost hyperventilating, and jumping when the dog touched me. Pour Wally got kicked, not hard but just out of a scared reaction.

Every time I would close my eyes I would relive the nightmare. And now I'm so tired from keeping myself awake that I'm almost in tears. To top it off it's already a sauna out and was back at 5:27 AM when Ranger just HAD to go out.

Yesterday though I did get a little sewing done. My first ever applique, by hand... {patting self on back} :)

Raining!!! It's been so nice to get at least some rain. The creek isn't running, but at least there are some pools now. More chances today and thankfully extending into next week. WOO HOO!!!!

Not much is really going on around here. At least that I want to put on public viewing... it's been a hard week, but we made it through day by day by the grace of God. And so another day is in the making. I'm already tired and would much rather head back to bed than into the goat and calf yonder.

At some point we need to find someone or someone needs to help me fix the water gate that is out. Fighting and separating the dry cows, heifers and milk cows daily is getting really old REALLY fast. Jerseys seem to get bored and need something to do if they aren't sleeping or grazing... you know I bet there is someone out there doing a study on what is best to do for increased happiness of moo's in their spare time. Yes I'm being sarcastic... but some of the things than money gets spent on is NUTS! A study to see how much energy it takes for a cow to shed in the springtime... FYI... alot... so much in fact that their butterfat test will drop. I know I'm not very bright, but I think it has more to do with them eating lush grass and having an increase in milk production. Oh well...

On the sewing front, not much happening... I did get some fabric though... :) great plans for the weekend! Pictures to come...

Any more $3.95 doesn't go very far... but today I got my moneys worth and so much more. Mom and I stopped at a flea market in town... it's been a very hard past few days for us and I'll leave it at that. Anyway... we stopped there on the way to the Library and our Aunts house...

I found a The Far Side book for $3.95... we needed a laugh or three I thought, something to just chase away the jiggling insides, mind going places, etc... For that small sum I go more than just the $3.95 and tax... I heard a laugh from someone I love and a smile, something that has been gone for so long it seems. Which in my book is worth so much more...

Someday things will not be so stressful and hard... this I keep telling myself. The only thing that is keeping me on this side of sanity is sewing and all the Quilt Bees I'm in... for a brief moment in the day I lose myself in the creativity of others and myself when I steal a few moments to just cut strips into various sizes and shapes...

It's Independence Day!

Last night after chores I came in intending to quick take a shower and sew. Well it didn't go that way... I needed to cut out some stuff for blocks before I could sew... SO I took my scraps of black and white, settled down in front of the the tv, found the remote and turned it on. Some how I managed to find a movie I have enjoyed before... and it got me to thinking.

The movie was John Adams btw on HBO. I made me think of the men and women who actually fought for this country to be born, the people who take advantage of what the sacrifice was, how we have lost so much, and in turn made me wonder what John Adams, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and all the others would think of what this country has become. Government has become a game to a lot of people. This country has long lost it's being of the people and for the people. IMHO...

Oh well... that's just my thought for the day...

I really don't ever remember it being so dry in these parts so early. Thankfully there might be some chances for rain over the weekend. Maybe we'll get enough that the creeks will have some fresh pools... or even be running again!

We had some excitement here yesterday. A Blimp flew over!!! This is the second time in a few years this has happened...

And I've just thrown this one in because I like it! :) I bought 3 shades of Bougainvillea I believe this is the Peach? Pink? Maybe it's supposed to be Orange... I don't know or remember which is par for the coarse these days.

An odd little week... it's seems that it just drags on and ON. Thankfully it's Thursday... tomorrows Friday, amazing how Friday always comes after Thursday isn't it?! :) And then a LONG weekend.

Maybe I'll get some sewing done. :) MAYBE I'll whip up a quick 4th something or other... I've got the fabric for it that's for sure. Every year I have good intentions of making something that's Red, White, and Blue... so far the fabric is sitting in tubs just waiting to be cut up and used.

So it's a busy day ahead. I didn't make it to the post office yesterday so it's a MUST to get there today.

How does one go about finding out how many feed drivers have been killed, while delivering feed, by way of electrocution? from stand on the ground or sitting in their truck???

Yes we are having to deal with the electric company again. This bin was grandfathered in... in over 33 years there has never been a problem... NEVER! To which they say, we never knew about it... Oh PLEASE... these guys are ALWAYS running up and down the roads, they've known it was there and it didn't matter. Now this one little guy at SW Electric is all in a tizzy.

But on an up note they are just looking out for us... after all the family of the person who in theory would be killed would just go after us. And isn't a life worth more than $100,000.00? Yes I would think so, but how much is the livelihood of 4 people worth? After all as M. said... losing 4 days of milk isn't that bad. Yeah I just looked at him, got a little irritated and told him it's more than 4 DAYS, it's over $30,000.00 and over a year! We still haven't recovered from losing milk, lose of cows coming in heat and calving, etc... and that's going on 3 years...

Anyway he measured it again... like it's shrank or grown...

When is enough enough? First it's a bad contractor, bad lender/s, bad dealership, bluffing attorney, another atty, finally bankruptcy, and now we are in a waiting game of knowing if we'll be able to live here (we'll know with in a couple of months or less on this), and to top it off the electric company... I try not to let it get to me, not to cry or worry... some days though it's just all to much...

That's what I keep telling myself... It all started when the above dog woke me up at 5:00 AM... Now I love my Ranger Roonie Toonie... but not so much at that time of the morning! So I just told myself... just go lay down for a minute... Well that minute turned into an hour and forty five minutes... give or take.

And so I told myself again after getting up I'll just do the Facebook thing... and read my morning blog or three... and get ready to face the day!... well that's been seventeen minutes ago...errr 18 now... :)

Thankfully the weather is cooler and there is less humidity... now we just need some rain...

And thankfully it's FRIDAY which means tomorrow is SATURDAY... and that means the next day is Sunday... Rest and peace is a few short days away...

We have all been keeping busy around these parts... bush hogging (really all we are doing is worrying the grass and weeds... lack of funds have prevented us from getting a new/used one) , daily chores, garden chores, cleaning,... and me personally trying to get some sewing done!

Thankfully yesterday was cooler and had a nice breeze to go along with it. Today we are supposed to be back up in the 90's with the heat index of over 100... We are definitely in need of rain... a good soaking rain. One that will make the grass grow and things stop looking brown out.

That's how long I'm giving myself BEFORE heading out the door for chores. sigh...

OK here's the scoop...

Babynina has landed!!! We have a cleaned machine... haven't tried her out yet though... I've lost the power cord. I TOLD them I would, but would they listen?! NOOOOOO oh well. From the sample stitches it looks great though. Will have to try out some of those stitches!

No rain... I'm jealous over a certain blogger friend and HER rain... and coolness. It's been dry here with rain all around us... and hot... humid... It feels more like July than June.

I've been working on, OK thinking on what is wrong with the electric fence. I should have a HOT popping fence... it's less than a half a mile of wire, a 25 miles fencer, and 1 joules. I'm getting 1.9kv ARGH... if anyone knows what might help let me know. It's not touching anything, not going through heavy vegetation, grounded... I can't figure it out! And it's also a brand new fencer... 3 in fact have done the same bloomin' thing!

OK my 6 minutes were up 4 minutes ago... happy sewing, gardening, farming, fixing, shopping... whatever your doing today!!!

So I took my "baby nina" (bernina that is) to get the spring fixed. Well my hillbilly fix it worked. He told me that it would fine and dandy no worries. HOWEVER... it needed a good cleaning blah blah blah... he had me when he said it was soon going to freeze up. EGADS! and that it would be costly... soooo I have no sewing machine to stitch with...

BUT I did get my Modify Tradition Swap quilt done... And the Ravishing in Red Blocks done... and several DOA quilt blocks... :)

Finally... I sat myself down and got busy sewing... that's when it seemed all sewing H E Double hockey sticks... broke loose. First the thread gets all tangled, then the needle breaks and it won't go back to sewing right (fixed that... don't know how but it's fixed), then I was just going along and it felt like the feed dogs were down. And I didn't lower them... come to find out the spring that holds the presser foot thingy broke... don't ask me how!

I just wanted to get the project finished! would that be just to much to ask? I guess so... grrrrrrr.... Anyway I have the old spring temporally holding. I'm hoping I can just buy the spring and not have to take the machine in for a service call. If that happens I will call the world over to find just the part... well with in reason. :)

Goats be more like cattle? Why doesn't the Bible call us goats rather than sheep? We've had both and let me tell ya people we are much more like goats than sheep!

I've decided that buck kids are from the devil... at least when they get to a certain age. Egads... hormones were running WILD last night. It's cute when you have one buck going around acting goofy, doing his bubbly grunty sticking out the tongue thing... but when there are 13 baby bucks doing this... not so cute. More like insanity. Rut has come early... I only hope I can live through it... yeah I know being a little dramatic, but honestly... it does wear on the nerves. And when your nerves are already fried by the goings on of the last three years, trying to remain positive and happy despite the overwhelming (at times) situation, well there are just some days you are glad at the end of the day you made one more day without losing it.

And so forth and so on... :) Well I better be heading off for morning chores... it's already hot and humid... should be a fun morning... yes that was said in a sarcastic tone of type.

Today was my birthday... It seems odd. It really doesn't feel like I've been on the earth all that long... oh well I guess it must be so. Still it doesn't feel it...

It's cherry, strawberry, and mulberry season... With the Raspberries, Blackberries, cucumbers, and grapes right on their heels. Today has been spent doing up 10 qts of strawberries the neighbors gave us. So far we have 3 pints of jelly, 10 pints of strawberry- lemonade concentrate and that's it so far. Also there has been a fair amount of eating :)... They go great with mulberries right off the tree...

A longer post to come... it's been a sewing, receiving, cooking, canning week... tired... :)

It's been a LONG hot day. But at least the barn is 99% cleaned out. I don't think it has ever been this bad, although we've never fed 7 or more big bales of hay in the barn either SO all in all it wasn't to bad. Bad enough though.

OH and everyone needs one of these . It's WONDERFUL!!!!!!

And you also needs to get a Panini Grill. Really a 4 in 1 is what we just got and let me tell ya... its wonderful!

So after 3 days being without internet service... We are now back online. Upgraded modem, upgraded router... some how both got fried. Same guy that put in the first satellite dish and modem put in this one. He even got our computers done up with the new router so I don't have to! AND I don't have to call India anymore! :-) HOT DOG BABY! I can just call him... wow... Thank you Lord. And I'm not being whatever... I'm truly thankful... We have been very blessed in small ways this past week... you have to start small before getting big.

It was such a blessing when the tire went flat last week... used tired for $25 (in great condition AND it wasn't $150). The power of prayer...

Getting our internet back in only 3 days, ON a holiday weekend... It was going to be next Monday before they could come unless there was a cancellation (it doesn't happen very often). It happened in a couple of hours... again the power of prayer. It may sound silly but when you have a business and you depend on being able to get orders it's a big deal!

Calves all seem to be doing well... goats are being their goaty selves... One and Another (the two white kittens than are going out SOON) are still as mean as can be...

On an up note... We the Yukon is now unlocked, had a very nice chat with the guy who came. All I can say is I NEED one of those thingy's he had... They would come in SO handy :)

Was a long and hot day... humid also... At least the calves have been vaccinated, wormed, all that good stuff. We've only been trying for over a month to get it done... Now if the weather will hold for just one more day with out precipitation I'll be a somewhat happy camper... :)

Sewing was put on the back burner... I'm frustrated... why can't things just click?! I am going to try and finish up a great many things today. Well... we'll see. It might happen tonight. Just to get ONE thing done would be fantastic

H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS!!! I was doing this block... it would have been such a pretty little block... But would it go together? NOOOOO after sewing, and ripping, sewing and ripping... I gave up... decided to do a different block. And would that do any better? HA! I even did it by paper piecing... sew, rip, sew, rip sew, rip, sew... be done with it!

I just have two more sections to go and then I can put it together, add the borders, quilt it, bind it, and send it on it's merry little way. :) woo hoo!!!!!!!!!

Where the winds came sweeping down the plains... where the wavin' wheat was baled up neat, and the wind came right before the rain!!!!!!

Well this time yesterday mom and I were pert near OK City, You know I was doing pretty good, even hit the same gas station I did last year, on the same oops thought that was the toll booth... sigh... but some how I managed to get lost in OK city... how you ask... I would love to know that one also!

We were on our way to Dallas! EGADS!!!! MOMMY... she was with me... doing very well with the fact that we were lost. That there were 6-8 lanes of merging here there and yon traffic. sigh... When the little man as the gas station didn't give great direction... (get on 35 N to 240... that's it... OK BUT WHERE ON 240?) I stopped at a Home Depot... thanks to the nice girl there I got the right exit and was on the outskirts of Blanchard with in 20 minutes.

Coming home was much better, no getting lost, hit every blessed toll booth (spent well over $20.00 in tolls grrrr) and I think we saw over 20 troopers. :) I almost hit one... well I was trying to get over and he was zooming up from behind... I'm sure he thought... Missouri driver what do you expect!?!?

On a funny note... we passed the same RV 4 times!!!!! LOL it was so funny... we pulled off a few times and they caught up, and then we passed them. :) the forth time it was like... it can't be... it IS, it's Mountain Air with the temp tag! LOL!!

It's been raining for what seems like forever, in reality it's only been a few days. But I already I'm more than tired of mud, being wet, overcast and gloomy sky's.

The only bright spot has been doing some sewing here and there, getting my starter block sent off for the "A Quilting Journey Round Robin Bee" and receiving the first block all in the same day. Now to find some kind of inspiration!

Farm wise it's been going, weaning the kids, running the truck out of gas, finding a new calf, having cows across the creek that didn't get milking until the evening... It's been a full week and I'm glad it's almost Sunday so there can been some much needed rest and relaxation. Even if it is going to be a drippy and thundering day.

I wanted to mention this about the pic. I posted for mothers day... you really need to click it to see the humor. Mom was trying to get some hay moved or fed... something and the front spikes came off in the hay! It was so funny! To this day we don't really know how it happened since it was locked into place... Life of the farm :)

Well I best be heading off into the wild, overcast yonder. I'm weaning kids and they weren't happy about it last night. Poor babies... but they are about to wear me slick.

It's another Friday... this week has just sped by leaving dust in it's tracks. So just where did it go??? I always ask myself that. The answer is???? The day to day STUFF... and extra's like, trimming the goats feet, worming delousing, getting parts for the mower, stringing electric fence wire from here to kingdom come... I felt like a spider afterward. But the goats... large, small, and not yet born... are contained... amazing!

And so... the week has finally come to and end... what a relief! And I even got the yard mowed yesterday. Still needs to be trimmed but I'm only good at so much.

You know, I think I'm' starting to like this whole draft blogger thing... yeah I know I'm behind in the times... so what else is new?! :)

Kinda morning yesterday... It just wasn't a day that seemed to flow. It all started the night before with Betsy Rose kicking "stuff" in to the milk... which I didn't know for sure happened until its was all strained into jars with the last 2c. going in to another jar. Had to pitch all the milk for the night. I was not happy. Oh well I got over it, as I always do.

Anyway, yesterday I was cleaning out, up, pitching, purging my sewing space. For the most part I'm done... I can only take so much of getting rid of my stuff (even if I don't remember getting it, or having it) at least I now have a more workable space. I hope, we'll see anyway.

At the moment I'm uploading pictures from my camera... It's been needing to be done, but I keep forgetting to do it. Like I don't have anything better to do. :)

Well it's time to get... if I want to get chores done before noon one must get dressed, out the door and face the day!

My newest addiction is going to be... FLICKR OMSM!!! (for those who don't know that... Oh my sweet magnolia!!!) I'm just adoring it...

So far I've joined a whole 4 groups, all quilting of course... but dog gone if it's just not the bees knees... :) Now I just need to start uploading, getting the email to work right... and so forth and so on.

So yesterday was one of THOSE days... all was going well... and I mean really well... then just seemed as though things fell apart... and so did I. At least in a bad mood kind of way... I mean come on... just because someone is having a bad day doesn't give them the right to take it out on me. Even now it makes me mad... and then in my heat of the moment I took it out on others. It's a nasty circle... So to make me feel better I named a stupid bull after this person. I was trying to move the non brightest crayon in the box over with the milk cows... I opened the gate... HE SAW ME DO IT! I called him in, walked out of the opening... and what does he do??? WALK right on by! And then STANDS at the corner post of the opening growling... STUPID! It took this bright boy 15 minutes to figure out that was able to move from one gate opening to another...

And so I've decided this... ALL of his calves will be sold... I don't care... unless it's a heifer out of a cow who is old OR excellent... otherwise they are gone! Sigh... there is a stupid gene ya know... he's got it big time...

Like everything else this month just seems to be flying by... Hey off subject, but when did they put that little insert movie tab up there on the tool bar??? Was it there yesterday? Oh well like it really matters, I don't take any video with the P&S camera SO why bother thinking about it?!

Yesterday was a full day, with cloudy skies, blustery winds and a few not so nice words sent into the air over getting the dryer set up. :) And I have a bone to pic with the manufacturers, IF you are spending $$$$ on a dryer the POWER cord should come with it! and a new air vent to boot! Sheesh... How was I supposed to know that I should have gotten one? Maybe it's common knowledge but NOT to me. At least we could just take the old cord and put it on the new, so all's well that ends well. Cloths are dry, fluffy, folded, and for the most part put away.

Hmm what else... OH UL came last evening and got the lean-to cleaned out. I'm not good at maneuvering our tractor around in that long and narrow space. So now it's up to me to get the rest cleaned out... maybe this week end who knows.

Yesterday was that in a nutshell...

Chores seemed never ending, mom and K. had a chiropractor appointment, laundry (hey I did get one load out and one going!), more chores, ran the check over to the bank, got something for dinner... Red Beans and Rice TODAY for sure, then at some point in the day I thought it would be a good idea after evening chores to go and see if Sears had a clearance/closeout dryer.

You see a few weeks back (has it been a few weeks? I don't remember) ANYWAY, our dryer went to appliance ~~hell~~ heaven... just a short 6 months after spending $95.00 on parts to fix it. Isn't that just life... back to the point, I had called down earlier in the day to see if they had ANY on clearance and what they were... the answer none... I said your sure there are NONE we can bring home today? No I'm sorry, they all need to be ordered. To myself I was thinking... YEAH RIGHT! They ALWAYS have clearance/closeouts/returns so at around 8 mom and I hop in the Yukon and were on the mission of ordering a dryer (does anyone know how fun it is to dry clothes when it's been raining out for days? the house was beginning to look like a Chinese laundry). So we got to the Mall/Sears 15 minutes before closing time, found a dryer that was ON clearance, and wonder of wonders it was in the back of the vehicle 2 minutes after closing. :)

I decided to get the extended warranty on the thing... after all you can get rid of it with in the first year, milk it for all it's worth, call and they will refund you the money. :) Why not I thought. So as I type a dryer is on the property awaiting to be hauled in, set up, and used. Just in time for the storms later this week.

Well it's dawned in the same way it's been all week end. Gloomy, wet, breezy, chilly... On an up note we've been getting some much needed rain.

On another up note, both my sick baby calves are doing much better. :) The one had such a a high temp she is starting to loose her hair. Bless her little heart... but she's alive and so so much better. And so that's all that really matters. Now I only have to wait how many more days for the culture panel to come back? I think it's a week... Whatever this stuff is it packs a punch I can say that.

OH I did manage to get some sewing done! Yippee Skippee for ME! I even ironed my partial blocks... isn't that something... well it is for me. I despise ironing...

Stopped at a green house in the rain on Saturday, $37.05 later... I'm still wondering what it is I bought for that... OH well so it go... I'm hoping the double maroon Columbine I bought will make it. We had the most beautiful deep blue one... it never would winter over.

And so this brings us to the part where I push the Publish Post button and head off for chores in the gloom... :)

It's a simple thing to do... that is IF you can find your tagger and ear tags. All I wanted to get done yesterday was tagging some heifers before turning them out on grass. Did it happen??? HA! yeah right... I couldn't find my brand new tagger and tags. And if you think I was about to go out and buy another new tagger AND ear tags your nuts! But the calves did get turned out...

This just really bugged me as I ALWAYS leave my tagger with the ear tags, on the shelf in the calf/goat barn. Were they there? NO, did they get dropped or tossed on to the ground? NOO... and so they are good and lost. ON an up note... we did find my Z tagger... Now to find a place that sells Z tags, as it would be rather nice to know exactly who is who before I forget. *smile*

Rain on the horizon all... must get to it before it starts... boo hiss boo... I'll not complain to much seeing as we really do need a good rain. Things are getting dry round here...

Yesterday that is... today has yet to start. I'm just sitting here in my jammies, wondering, pondering, sniffling, and being glad yesterday is over.

A lot went on yesterday that's for sure. I finally managed to get the electric fence up so the calves can get out on grass. woo hoo for me!!!! and for them. My two scour babies seem to be holding their own. Which is a good thing.

Over the weekend we had some not so fun stuff come up that didn't get resolved until yesterday. Our milk check was sent out early. I was thrilled until I opened it... granted I knew it wouldn't be good but there was a surprise. It was stamped with a big RED NOT A CHECK DIRECT DEPOSIT... EGADS we didn't have an account where I had sent the form back in DEC. for it to be direct deposited. They couldn't do the direct deposit then because... now get this... the numbers were to small. But this month it was hunky dory?! WHAT THE WHO!?!?!?! I was in a panic all weekend. Thought all was well on Monday, then found out it wasn't at noon and that sent me into another panic. Thankfully all is well no... I hope. Thankfully D. at our co-ops accounting firm is always wonderful to work with and actually understands.

Hmm what else... OH the baby goats are now juvenile delinquents, my babies... I know hard to believe. *smile* They deem it great to eat the roses, baby trees, go in the road, and are just giving us fits all the way around. Not to mention a full grown doe that is nursing her mother and nursing her own baby! This makes me mad... after all it's MY MILK! Not some goat who is bigger than her mother, and still nurses! ARGH!!!!!!

Well it's 7:13... time for me to get in gear and get things going...

Tuesday is beginning... dawning chilly and me wanting to stay in a nice warm bed, wrapped up in my cocoon of blankets all nice and toasty warm. Now to face the masses that are sleeping until I head out the door. Don't you ever wonder how they can hear a pin drop, know it you, start their morning serenade of moos, meows, barking, naaing...

And so... the morning starts... which leads to afternoon, and the final chores for the day... AND FOR TODAY that means.... DEADLIEST CATCH!! WOO HOO!!!!! It's one show I truly enjoy watching. And I don't know why... I just do...

Well must be off, bottles and buckets aren't going to get filled with me sitting here... wish they would... think of the time I would save!!

It's a little chilly here

Well the weather turned off a little chilly after Friday. Not much rain to speak of, mostly heavy sprinkles. But this AM seems rather chilly if you ask me, and it still does if you don't.

I'm wishing I could just go back to bed and get warm again... but on the flip side I'm glad for the cooler temps. The 80's for April is just a bit much. And so it is time again for chores. One morning once in a great while it would be nice to not have to go out and do my morning chores, just be able to putter and sew... oh well... that ain't gonna happen... sewing will be done during the "free" time. *smile*

April Showers...

It seems we will be getting some... when... they don't know... I don't know... who really knows? It was supposed to start last night. Well there's nary a drop, got a text message saying... it was starting tonight rather than last night. And also the temps will be dropping... not so thrilled with that, but highs in the 60's lows in the 40's won't be to bad.

We've been having babies in the form of little brown bovines... and their heifers! WOO HOO!!!! I have got to get them tagged before I forget who is who. And the goats are needing to be worked over also. The following week after next week we'll be working calves.

Not much else is really going on here... slow and steady. Thankfully our milk weights are coming up with the grass that is finally growing. Which reminds me I need to order feed today... should have done it yesterday, but kept forgetting and when I finally remembers it was after hours. oh well...

Yogurt Salad Dressing Recipes

Blue Cheese:

2/3 c. plain yogurt
1/4 c. crumbled blue Cheese
1 green onion (with top) chopped
1/2 t. salt
1/8 t. garlic powder

Mix and chill.

Cucumber Dressing:

2/3 c. plain yogurt
1/2 c. chopped cucumber
1 1/2 t. sugar
1 t. prepared horseradish
1/2 t. salt.

Mix, chill at least 2 hr.

Fruit Salad:

2/3 c plain yogurt
1 T. honey
1 T. lemon juice

Ranch:

2 c. plain yogurt
1/4 - 1/2 c mayo
1/2 t. EACH: garlic powder, onion powder, celery leaves and salt
1/4 t. EACH: pepper, paprika and dill weed
1 t. dry parsley or 2 T. fresh chopped parsley
dash of cayenne pepper (optional)

Mix and chill.

Right now I'm waiting for milk to warm, so I can feed the calves. Then come in, shower, and maybe sew a little or go to bed.

This cold, while not a bad cold like some I've had... is draining all energy and mental clarity I have. By the time I've finished with AM chores... I'm so tired that it take all day to just gear up for evening chores. Everybody is asking if I have allergies... NOPE it's cold... then I get that look like I have the plague or something... I think I'll just say it's allergies from now on... *cough cough... ohhh my aching head*

I did it. In a rash moment of I don't know what... I emailed a letter to the editor of Hoards. We'll blame it on being tired, getting kicked wickedly by a calf this AM (and I it was more than one little kick... it was over and over and over again, me screaming and crying... calf fed and not happy with me) and trying not to catch the cold that my dear mother has had.

This a pet peeve or two of mine...

#1. Writing a letter to the editor, asking them to withhold your name, and then they publish it! GRRRR If people are to whimpy to not want to be known they have no business writing letters and being published.

#2. Farmers who get up and say... Oh I made a profit even during last years HORRIBLE milk prices. I really don't see a problem with how the industry is being ran. To them... good for you on making a profit! Wish I could say the same thing. But has anyone ever noticed that it is these whimpy guys saying all this horse hockey that get put on the news, or have their letter put into print, and that our congressman, senetors, and representatives hear and listen to?

ARGH!!!!!!! I need a nap... And to Mr or Ms Name Withheld in Indiana stand up for something even if it means just letting your name be known. I can respect that... not the other....

Rudely Awakened

OK so I've not been sleeping the greatest as of late, I had finally managed to get some good sleep going this morning only to be awakened by a loud siren, coming, going and flying by that was on the top of one of our Mennonite neighbors trucks... I don't know which one... He had overalls, a black quad cab Chevy truck, ball cap, and cell phone... :)

So anyway way now I'm dragging... I should have been out and knee deep into chores by now. Just can't seem to manage to drag myself to get up and going. Just a little more sleep... SLEEP... what a beautiful word.

All in all I hope nothing horrible wrong was going on... it seems odd that there would be a fire with all the rain we would have gotten through the night. But who know! And he was the only one that went zooming by... sounding his siren and flashing lights... the light was blue BTW.

Forsythia before the goats got to it...

#1. Bad fences... granted most days I am stressing over the LACK of woven wire, barbed wire, electric fence wire, but today I'm glad our fences weren't very good. A beef cow of ours had managed to get her head under the fence and couldn't get up, was bloating, and wouldn't have made it much longer. With the help of I'm sure a host of angels (prayer works people!) got Fava up and standing.

#2. The sense of smell... the air is filled with Hyacinths, Daffodils, Violets, and the sweet smell of SPRING! Oh the joys of a warm day... shorts and T-shirts... :)

#3. Wind... granted I feel as though my eye lids are being peeled backward, my hair is a mess, and the general feeling of being wind blown isn't so great, it's doing wonders for drying out the ground... Now if we could just work on these April Showers... :-/

#4. That today... I don't have to get in a vehicle and go anywhere!!!! For over 2 weeks I've been gone somewhere doing something... it gets old.
